January 14, 2026 — Today, the Board issued an Order approving Halifax Water’s new Schedule of Rates, Rules and Regulations for Water, Wastewater and Stormwater Services. The Order comes after the Board directed Halifax Water in a decision, dated December 16, 2025, to re-calculate its rates based on the Board’s findings.

A copy of the Order, which includes the new Schedule, is available HERE. The new rates are expected to increase the average residential bill by 12.1% in January 2026 and another 6% in April 2026.

In addition to its Order, the Board also issued a letter today to those who participated in the proceeding to approve Halifax Water’s new rates. The letter describes the events that occurred after the Board directed the utility to re-calculate its rates via a Compliance Filing.
